Animatic Trailer ' Mad World'

Finally we have now got our Animatic of the trailer, this took some time and full credit goes too Ryan Fulton for creating this in Sony Vegas, as you can see this fits well with our music choice and should work well for our actual media piece, this will be what will hopfully pan out well in the end.

2. Weekly Diary Date

During the lesson we have finished finding out what we will be doing, we have finally completed our storyboards, moodboards, and have been looking into the MAC software i've found out theres quite alot of resources on the MAC for our group to use, as there is many more things we can create for example our songs could be created via the Garage Band, this is a good piece of software as it has sound effects we may need in future reference.

There is also a more advanced editing piece of software called final cut express which will allow us to have a better cut then the past media piece this will benefit us alot because we will have improved in the software, looking at the MAC's allowed me to see how much potential they really do have.

The main priority now is to complete any work that is not finished properly for the next week this should be quite straight forward.

Storyboards Finished

These are my completed story boards, as you can see we have the outline of out story so far which would be our guidline for when we start filming we will then be trying to make sure that we try and stick to it the best we can but the best thing is that they can be edited and tweaked to fit the trailer.

Moodboard Completed

This is the final moodboard that we have completed, as you can see we have began to show a devide between the two, Happiness would be the childs side all the good memories that have happened, where as the bad side would be symbolising the childs cancer that they have been diagnosed with, this is a basic out line of good vs evil, which would go well with our trailer, this was created by Ryan Fulton in fireworks, with help from the rest of us, this was something that was different rather then have it done on paper, using the computers to our advantage. 

Technical Code Analysis

With out media piece there will most likely be alot of different technical codes to express our media piece;
The camera angles will be able to express the point of view and relation ship between two different people and the environment they have been placed in, it depends on how the angle is it could have an emotional meaning example of this would be if the camera was directly overhead it can give a god like feeling to the viewer.

The frequency and number of cuts this would be whether they are a type of genre ours will have to have a fair amount of cuts because its a Drama, these will not be as short and quick as a Horror teaser trailer would be.

Lighting intensity will most likely be bright in the happy parts and the light will gradually go down and fade partly dark giving a sense of sadness.

Sound effects are not going to be placed alot we only will have a few relevant sound effects for certain parts an example would be the hospital it will need a 'beep' for the life support machine.

These are the main things so far the are important to take into consideration.

Film Decisions

The film title we have selected was 'Mad world' which would be a play on title and will relate to the soundtrack we have chosen, the backing music. The reason we have selected this title because we want to get across how mad the world really is once you've been diagnosed with a serious illness.

Our film decisions have been moving from various different ideas on what would best fit our piece as its going to be a 'Drama' with quite a serious story line which some people would be able to relate to upsetting news because it involves a serious illness.

The soundtrack we would like to have playing throughout the trailer would be, 'mad world' how ever we won't be getting the official song we will only need the piano backing music to the song. Which we can use our own school resources and see if a music student or teacher will help us with this.

The sound effects that we will be needing for our performance will mainly be either hospital sounds this would be a life support machine 'beep'because of the location, how ever we are undecided on any other sound effects because we want to get the recording completed first.

The costumes will vary between different types, we will have a basic outfit that a child would wear, the reason being for the scenes out of hospital, how ever whilst in the hospital there will be a night gown to be worn which will set the mood of the illness, and the sense of innocence to the child for the trailer.

Lighting will change from scene to scene, in the more emotionally happy scenes the lighting will be bright and vibrant to symbolise this, how ever when in the scenes that give a more upsetting sad mood they will be dull with less light, this will then set the mood in the short amount of time allocated for the trailer. If the lighting is successful then we will be able to have a trailer that will be effective in attracting the target audience.

1. Weekly Diary Update

To begin with the main thing was to try and figure out what genre we would be aiming toward with our trailer, by trying to do each task set we gradually got closer and closer until we finially chose to do a 'Drama'.

We have reccently completed the treatment which has previously been uploaded, also the storyboards and moodboard how ever these are yet to be added to the blog, once we have the pictures on the blog we will then be able to write them in detail.

The next task for a media piece would to find out where the location should be, this has to be perfect to the media piece other wise there will be problems, as our 'Drama' is to do with a serious illness we are considering a hospital location.

These have been completed, just need to be tweaked a little as we are slightly changing abit of them, the music that we have added would be best fitting, once we are able to upload them to the blog we will do so. A storyboard is more like a guideline we will try to stick to it as best but the advantage is we are able to edit it as we go along, these will look good once on the blog.

The Treatment

Treatment

1 - Core Themes:
Our core theme is to ‘Cease the day’, make the most out of the time he has left. Our idea was ‘My Sisters Keeper’ meets ‘The Bucket List’. The binary oppositions within our teaser trailer are going to be; happy/sad, health/illness. The Logline of our teaser trailer is going to be ‘Young boy who wants to achieve something before he dies.’

2 – Core Characters
The core characters of our teaser trailer are as follows:

The protagonist – The young boy (around the age of 8) who has been diagnosed with cancer at the start of the film, then goes onto achieving his dreams and goals from which he was hoping to accomplish within his life but he now only has 6 months to live.

The adversary – This is going to be the cancer. The cancer that the young boy is going to be diagnosed with is going to be cancer of the pancreas. We have chosen this type of cancer due to the survival rate of the cancer being only 10%.

3 – The Three Acts

Act 1 - The set up – Film starts off sad as he finds out he has been diagnosed with Cancer (film could start at the scene of a hospital waiting room where the doctor calls him in and reveals he has cancer)

Act 2 – The set back – He gets to for fill his dreams with his ‘Helper’ (who is his best friend) some of which include the chance to swim with dolphins, visit Disney Land Orlando, hot air balloon ride.

Act 3 – The Resolution – This is the part of the film where he has for filled his dreams and is now back in his hospital bed at home waiting to die. The ending of the film is sad but also happy as he has for filled his dreams but is now dying.

4 – Additional Characters
The additional characters within our film are as follows:

Protagonist – The young boy
Villain – The natural cause ‘Cancer’
Heroin – The prize/reward of being able to accomplish all the tasks/events that the young boy dreamed of
Father – Charity’s donating money towards the young boy in order for him to for fill he’s dreams
Helper – Family and close friends
Mentor – A close friend who helps him along the way and assures him

5 – The Setting
We are going to be having various settings for our teaser trailer due to the fact that he is going to be for filling his dreams and goals within life. Some of the settings are going to include, hospital/waiting room, we are going to be using a few green screen shots which are going to include a hot air balloon in flight and also at Disney Land Orlando we can have the boy looking at the castle/entrance.

Genre Analysis

Our basic Genre because it would be whats known as a sad film would proberly be going more towards the 'Drama'the only problem that i can think about with this genre would be how to get our trailer to symbolise the typical genre.

With our past short media piece this is a giant step as that was 'Action' which could be one of the easiest things to have chosen, but our group chose to go for something with more of a challenge, as this is a drama the story line will be more hard hitting and have a meaning to it.

Upon researching for this genre i've realised that its rare you'll find a drama that doesnt have a serious meaning in the ending, the similar films that are like our trailer would be; My sisters keeper; The Bucket list and The boy in striped Pyjamas.

Once watching this Its easy to realise that these are successful trailers in what they aim to achieve, which is what our group needs to try and put across the 'Drama' genre in the space of 30-60 seconds, so far i think we will be able to so.

My Sisters Keeper

This shot that you are able too see would be whats known as a close up because it is fixed on the two actors faces which you can see at the moment they are showing happiness with their emotions they are expressing, the angle that has  been chosen is eye level this is so that you can relate too the people on screen, and should make you involved more in the film.

These two shots have been chosen for this particular scene is because they want you to see how effective the scene is because these have been chosen, and that because they are smiling maybe something good has happened, which is ironic too the film because the film is generally in a sad setting, but because of this it shows that you are able too relate to the film as you will feel like you are actually there.

Boy in striped Pyjamas



The boy in striped pyjams also has a form of lighting that would be bright and signifies happiness how ever this film is not portrayed as happy throughout, as you can see that there are barbed fences which give a sense of being trapped or in a prison these are typicial conventions of media, barbed wire is normally associated with prisons which are enclosed areas.

The costume that the boy is wearing would be a what appears too be a pair of pyjamas very similar too the prison uniform that is used too this date, the facial expressions are more of a
